I a весь, все Русскому весь, все соответствуют в английском языке all и whole, между которыми нет большого различия в значении, но которые различаются позицией в предложении и типом имен существительных, которые они определяют: (1). Оба прилагательных all и whole могут употребляться с абстрактными существительными, со словами day, night, week, month, year, world, а также с названиями городов, стран и континентов, но требуют разных конструкций: all стоит перед определенным артиклем и другим детерминативом, а whole, в отличие от него, стоит после детерминативов: all his life, но his whole life; all the year, но the whole year, all Europe, но the whole Europe или the whole of Europe. Кроме того, all сочетается с существительными, при которых детерминатив не обязателен, а в сочетании с whole такой детерминатив не может быть опущен:all night (day), но the whole night (day);
all Europe, но the whole Europe или the whole of Europe.
С абстрактными существительными предпочтительно употребление whole:the whole time,
the whole truth.
(2). Только all употребляется с названиями веществ:all the bread,
all the snow,
all the water и т. п.
(3). All употребляется с неисчисляемыми существительными и с исчисляемыми существительными во множественном числе:at all times — во все времена;
all books (decision) — все книги, все решения.
(4). С исчисляемыми существительными в единственном числе обычно употребляется whole:the whole story,
the whole apple.
(5). See both a (2); every a (2). II prn все, всё (1). Местоимение all стоит после личного местоимения, но перед предложной группой:we all,
но all of us — мы все, все мы.
(2). Русскому всё, что соответствуетAll I know (I saw, I want) — Все, что я знаю (видел, хочу).
Русскому все, кто соответствует — All those who came (left). (3). See both, prn (3).; every, prn (2). -
